Thematic, Sustainable Experiences for Cruise Visitors in Heraklion

Heraklion Port Authority S.A., in partnership with the Hellenic Mediterranean University, developed a series of thematic tours to promote sustainable cruise tourism in the region.

The routes were designed to minimize environmental pressure by dispersing visitors across time and geography, promote year-round tourism, and support local businesses and communities. Each tour integrates cultural heritage, responsible mobility (including walking and public transport), and partnerships with local producers.

The initiative reflects the port's strategy to enhance the environmental, social, and economic sustainability of cruise tourism while creating authentic, low-impact experiences for passengers.
