An Increasing Demand for Authentic, Slow Tourism

The Cypriot Deputy Ministry for Tourism aims to change the island’s tourist product, matching the vision of the 2030 National Tourism Strategy, which is to develop Cyprus’ tourism in a sustainable way, to positively impact the economy, society, and the environment.

As an example, the “Heartland of Legends” promotes slow tourism and offers unique visitor experiences, while encouraging the circular economy and sustainability. The island’s soul is its heartland full of hospitable people, enduring traditions, and fresh produce. The Heartland of Legends route is a project designed by the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Tourism and takes visitors to hidden places, to unwind, and enjoy the slow life. The “Heartland of legends” includes an authentic route of 3,000 kilometres promoting cultural heritage and developing tourism in rural and mountainous areas of the island, whilst showcasing the beauty of winter tourism in Cyprus.

The Deputy Ministry has stated that the National Tourism Strategy 2030 “is aiming to consolidate Cyprus as a year-round, quality, digitally smart and socially beneficial tourism destination, putting first the human factor and protection of the environment.”
