Providing Economic Benefits for Remote Communities

The Shetland islands' rich crofting life is made accessible through live demonstrations brought directly from a remote croft to guests on location only a short drive from cruise berths.

At the Shetland Rural Experience Centre, guests can watch border collies show off their herding instinct, view a variety of naturally marked Shetland sheep and handle iconic Shetland Ponies. David and Isla bring alive the stories of working crofts, and tell how animals are still used today, demonstrating world-renowned knitwear, wool heritage, and peatland restoration.

In conjunction with a local Country House, a lunch of traditional “Tattie Soup” and “Bannocks” is served to warm guests after being outdoors.
