Valletta Cruise Port

Valletta Cruise Port

Celebrating its twentieth anniversary, Valletta Cruise Port ushers thousands of passengers and crew members into Malta’s capital. The terminals are housed in restored buildings located below the iconic Valletta bastions, blending old and new while respecting the historic fabric of the surroundings. Nineteen restored Baroque 18th century warehouses, known as the Valletta Waterfront, form part of an award-winning urban development destination.

Valletta Cruise Port is supporting a €49.9 million initiative spearheaded by the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, and Infrastructure Malta, to develop shoreside electricity infrastructure. The project includes €37m investment to provide shoreside electricity on the five main cruise ship quays of Valletta’s Grand Harbour during 2023.

The cruise industry has a huge economic impact on the Maltese economy. In 2019, direct expenditure by the industry locally amounted to €83.36 million (€31 million passenger expenditure and €52 million cruise line expenditure). As a signatory to UNWTO’s Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, the port follows a set of principles to guide tourism development and maximise the sector’s benefits.

Stephen Xuereb, COO of Global Ports Holding and CEO of Valletta Cruise Port: “It is a great honour to receive excellent feedback about the port not only from cruise lines and guests but also from the community. Testament to this are the awards received by the port which celebrate excellence spanning various facets of sustainability: economic, social, environmental, and human. Global Ports Holding, of which Valletta Cruise Port is a subsidiary, is focused on continuous improvement, whilst striving to provide the best service to our guests, innovate services, and contribute to communities where we operate.”
